John Mark Rainey has had quite an inspiring journey! Growing up in South Central Mississippi, he pursued his passion for education and the arts, eventually earning a BFA in Art Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. His career began as an art teacher in Saginaw, Michigan, where he nurtured young creative minds for four years. He then furthered his education with a Master's degree in Educational Administration from Central Michigan University.

Rainey transitioned into administrative roles within the Saginaw Public Schools, ultimately becoming the Executive Director at KRESA in 1990. His dedication to the arts extended beyond administrative duties, as he co-chaired the Kalamazoo County Education for the Arts initiative. After retiring in 2004, he continued to share his knowledge as a professor at Western Michigan University.
